The 2018/19 transfer window has seen some good transfers and some shocking ones, but today we’re focusing on the shocking transfers so far. Without further ado join us as we take a brief look at those transfers that shocked the footballing world this summer
10) CRISTIANO RONALDO
Cristiano Ronaldo transfer to Juventus came as a shock to half of the world after some weeks of transfer speculation, on 10 July 2018, Ronaldo signed a four-year contract with Italian club Juventus after completing a €100 million transfer, plus solidarity contributions to Ronaldo's youth clubs and an additional €12 million in other fees. This was shocking because everyone knew he was going to leave Real Madrid but most football fans never saw him leave Madrid for Turin amidst the speculation of him joining the Serie A giant.
9) LEONARDO BONUCCI
Last year during the summer transfer window Bonucci decided to move away from Turin after a fruitful spell of 7 years with the Serie A giant to their grate rival AC Milan, everyone was shocked to see the great BBC ( Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini) trio of Juventus break up and we all thought that was the end of Bonucci career with Juventus but what is even more shocking is the return of Bonucci to Turin after a frustrating campaign with AC Milan. Although the temptation of playing with Cristiano Ronaldo and winning major silverware might have been a huge influence. But a shocking turn of events saw Leonardo Bonucci's return to Turin which was facilitated by Gonzalo Higuain's move to the Milan based club. Although Bonucci is indeed a terrific player, his relationship with club's coach could prove to be detrimental to the 'Old lady's' cause.
8) THIBAUT COURTOIS
The Belgian and former Chelsea shot stopper moved from London to Madrid after a strong performance at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he won the Golden Glove for best goalkeeper with Kovacic moving the other way on a season long loan. What’s shocking about this transfer was not that he left but it’s shocking to know he left for £35 million and his replacement Kepa Arrizabalaga cost Chelsea £80 million.

7) ARTURO VIDAL
Vidal moved to La Liga giant Barcelona for a sum of 18 million euros, plus 3 million euros in variables after 3 success season with Bayern Munich. What’s shocking is that Inter Milan were interested in vidal and were ready to pay around 23 to 24 million Euro for his services but Bayern Munich aren’t ready to entertain any offer below their asking price of £30 million, so half the world was shocked when he left for 18 million.
6) LEE GRANT
Lee Grant joined Manchester United on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee, reported to be £1.5 million from Stoke City. Manchester United fans were left with many questions about the signing, but with Manchester United’s third choice goalkeeper Joel Pereira out on loan and Sergio Romero out injured the fans still wonders why the 35 year old goalkeeper.
5) ANDRE SCHÜRRLE
Andre Schürrle moved to Fulham On 25 July 2018, on a two season loan. Though his move to Fulham was on loan but it still shocked the footballing world as to why a player of his calibre would move to Fulham.
4) GIANLUIGI “GIGI” BUFFON
Buffon moved from Turin to Paris Saint-Germain on a one year contract with an option for a second year at PSG. What’s shocking is that nobody expected Buffon to move to PSG as everyone thought he’ll finish his career at Turin and nobody could see PSG making that sort of deal for a 40 year old goalkeeper. Yes he’s a good goalkeeper and an experienced on at that he had already kept two clean sheet for PSG but really a 40 year old goalkeeper?
3) BERNARD ANÍCIO CALDEIRA DUARTE
Bernard Anício Caldeira Duarte moved to Everton from Shaktar Donetsk on a free transfer penning a 4 year deal with the Premier League side. This transfer is shocking because he chose Everton over Serie A giants AC Milan and Inter Milan who also wanted to sign him on a free transfer from his former club Shaktar Donetsk.
2) MALCOM
The 21-year-old former Bordeaux was all set to join the capital when suddenly out of nowhere, Barcelona came calling and it was too difficult for the player as well as the club to resist the temptation. All the preparations required were completed by AS Roma and Malcom was about to fly to Rome to undergo the medical test when all of a sudden, Barcelona lured Bordeaux into submission when the Catalans offered €41m (£36.5m) to the French club for the winger, which was roughly £6.5m more than the amount Roma was supposed to pay(excluding add-ons). In one of the weirdest possible ways, Barcelona hijacked the Brazilian winger Malcom from AS Roma and AS Roma would probably have felt hard done by the fact that the player was snatched from their grasp after they officially announced his arrival.
1) ROB GREEN
Rob Green move from Huddersfield Town to Chelsea shook the footballing world so hard because nobody saw the move coming, no one knew when he had his medical at Chelsea so it came as a shock to football fans when Chelsea announced him as their newest player and the cover for Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero.
